Exploring the World of Philosophy: From Origins to Applications
The Origins of Philosophy
Philosophy, from the Greek word philosophia (philo- + -sophia), meaning “love of wisdom” or “the pursuit of wisdom,” has existed for a very long time. It’s impossible to pinpoint a specific date for its emergence, but it can be said that it began when humans started questioning themselves, the world around them, and their place in the vast universe. Ancient Greek thinkers, with names like Thales, Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, are considered the founders of Western philosophy.
Ancient Greek philosophy raised fundamental questions about the nature of reality, the origin of the universe, ethics, and politics. Their thoughts still profoundly influence modern philosophy. From there, philosophy has developed through many stages, from medieval philosophy, modern philosophy, to contemporary philosophy, each stage possessing its own characteristics and raising new issues.
Main Branches of Philosophy
Political Philosophy:
Studies the nature of power, government, and the state, along with issues of social justice, freedom, and human rights.
Moral Philosophy (Ethics):
